Whatever became of her? Did you ever wonder as you got older what lead her to behave the way she did? There was a girl in our Elementary school who tended to behave irrationally and have angry outbursts and we all steered clear of and many kids mocked. Just before graduation we discovered she had many, many health issues and had to contend with much medication and dialysis. It made the entire class really take a reflective moment at how we reacted to and treated her.
Damn man, that’s heavy. You did a fantastic job telling the story, though. I look forward to buying this in the third-year collection. By the way, to share, I got a similar deep, nostalgically sad vibe from Derek Kirk Kim’s Same Difference; I highly recommend it.
Moving story…Thanks for being honest and for sharing that “The Hero” is about something you did. I’ve heard the best stories are based on situations and topics that the writer has experienced or is knowledgeable on.
Familiar tale of childhood regrets, Gabe. Maybe I’ll tell one on my site someday. The one thing all those stories have in common is that being even an unwilling (or unwitting) accomplice to someone’s pain is so much worse than being the target. At least that’s how I experience it; I barely remember what was done to me–but what I’ve done, I never can quite forget.
Heavy stuff man. Thank you for sharing!
You are quite welcome!
Great story/comic!
I like the “inverted” silhouette in the last panel… it makes it even more dramatic.
Thanks so much.

Aw, that’s sucks! Man, I do wonder where she is now, but I have no idea.
Have you ever wondered what Beth’s doing right now?

Thanks so much! I can’t wait to publish the third volume as well. I’m pretty happy with this year’s comics so far.

It’s strange how it works that way. I guess you feel guilty for pain you cause others way more…?
