This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with…. Clear Pepsi

While I was too young to remember New Coke, I was not as lucky to miss Clear Pepsi when it came out.

Clear Pepsi (also known as Crystal Pepsi) was made at a time when everyone thought that clear soda was better for you then soda that had color in it. My Dad was a big fan of Pepsi, and my Mom thought it would taste better without color. I for one thought it was going to taste like a mix up of 7up and Pepsi. When it came out, we ended up getting a 12 pack of it, and after all 3 of us tried it, the remaining 9 cans of it sat in the back of the refrigerator for weeks! Yes, it tasted that bad. We did have one friend that did like it, so we gave the rest of it to him.

Did you ever try Clear Pepsi when it came out? And if so, what did you think of it? Do you think color=taste?

And yet by that point in time, I didn’t care either way. I still liked New Coke, which is probably I drink Diet Coke anyway (heard it’s basically the same formula with aspartame instead).

It’s more that New Coke was them using the Diet Coke formula with sugar. However, aspartame and sugar have pretty profound differences in flavor (to some people, anyway) so they’re not exactly the same taste.

It definitely didn’t have the same flavor as regular Pepsi, but I liked neither one.

Never drank Crystal Pepsi… but everytime when someone is talking about Crystal Pepsi it reminds me of Family Guy:

“Gentlemen, I give you Crystal Pepsi. All the great taste of regular Pepsi but without the troublesome opacity. Well, what if you’re drinking a regular Pepsi and somebody is coming at you with a knife, huh? You won’t be able to see him past your Pepsi. And then, who’s dead, huh? You! You! You’re dead! Stabbed!”

And since then i don’t even drink coke….

The clear version always tasted like carbonated Kayro syrup to me. I couldn’t even drink real Pepsi after that debacle.
