Going to the super market was so boring for me, but the one thing that made it at least tolerable was when my Mom gave me money to get something out of the prize/vending machine. One of the coolest things was a sticky hand.

I mean how great is this thing? You don’t have to bend over or even reach out to pick up a sheet of paper?! It’s the laziest and funnest way to do all kinds of mundane tasks!

These things would get so filled with dirt that you would have to use soap and water to clean them off. They would rip and leave really greasy marks on anything they got flicked, walls, clothes and especially glasses.

These sticky hands were good to smack a sibling with too! Not that I’d do such a thing…

  2. Mom says:

Hahahahahaha! I remember you LOVED those things! And you’re right….they DID get so filthy!
    xoxoxox

Yes, I loved them, too! But what I liked even better were the sticky octopuses (made of the same plasticky stuff) that you could throw on the wall, then they would sticky-creep their way down the way like they were crawling!

I *loved* sticky hands!! They entertained me all day long… But man did they ever get filthy.

    1. gabe says:

Yes they did, but did you know that you could wash them with soap and warm water to restore their full stickiness?!

I had been looking for the sticky hands for years but recently I did find some sticky rope and made a video showing really the only thing it was ever good for 🙂

Ive seen small sticky hands present day, but back in the 80’s I remember being able to find those gigantic ones. Someone would always get slapped in the eye with it though.. and speaking of things smacking eyes, remember those hollow rubber ball halves? The ones you flip inside out and let it jump? I think those actually had a recall issued and are no longer being made due to so many eye injuries.

I remember those flippy things… can’t remember what they were called though.

anyone remember superballs? for a quarter I could get a couple from a dispenser every time I went to the grocery store with my mom… dumped like fifty of them off a balcony once to see how high they’d bounce, it was awesome

You were lucky. I Never had a Showbiz or CEC back in my day. We had to make due with clones like “Major Magic’s” or “Razz-Ma-Tazz” where I live, but I assume it was all the same anyway. Never realized you could just wash those things, but then, nobody ever told me these things. Learned something new today!

That octopus thing mentioned before was the Wacky WallWalker. Those things were fun, if not a very short fad!
