Analog Style: OMFG! (Outlandish Mini Figure Guys!)

This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with…. OMFG! (Outlandish Mini Figure Guys!)

Remember the M.U.S.C.L.E. Men and Monster In My Pocket figures series that were very popular back in the 80s & 90s? Well the guys at OctoberToys did, and that’s why they made the OMFG! (Outlandish Mini Figure Guys!) figure series.

What makes the OMFG! series cool is that it was made “By Mini Figure Fans For Mini Figure Fans”. What OctoberToys has done is they have an art contest were you can enter ideas for figures for future line-ups for the OMFG! figure series, then the fans get to vote on the top 5 figure ideas that will get made into figures for that series, then they get posted on Kickstarter.com to be funded.

So far, there has been two line-up for the OMFG! figure series, and they already have a third line-up up for funding on Kickstarter.com.

They also already have an art contest going for the fourth series on the OctoberToys OMFG! Forum, so if you have any good ideas for figures you want to see be made, now would be a good time to enter.

Analog Style: More Cool Kickstarter Stuff

This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with…. More Cool Kickstarter Stuff

Remember last year when I made a post about some of the cool retro style games that were up for funding on Kickstarter.com? Well I just found some more cool retro style stuff that you guys might want to take a look at.

Shovel Knight: Here is another cool looking retro game I found on Kickstarter. The idea of this game is that they took the best gameplay parts of games like Mega Man & Castlevania, and put them into one game.

Mini 10-Doh! Series 2: What makes this series of Mini Figures cool is that they look just like the classic NES Game Carts (but with arms and legs).

Mini Comics Included: Remember when toys back in the 80s came with Mini Comics? Well these guys do, and that’s why they are working on a series of new Mini Size Comics for some made up (fake) 80s toys lines they came up with.

As you can see from the links, the funding for all of this cool stuff is still going, so if you want to make a donation and get some cool retro style stuff at the same time, now would be a good time. The thing to remember about Kickstarter.com is that it’s an “All or Nothing” funding site. That means that if this stuff does not reach their funding goal by the listed ending date on their pages, then they don’t get any of the money they raised for them so far. I can’t tell you how bad it is to get very excited over something cool you find on Kickstarter and even make a donation to it, only for it to not be funded because it was a $1.50 short of it’s funding goal.

So please, make a donation to get this cool stuff made, or at least get the word out about all of this cool retro stuff that’s on Kickstarter.

Analog Style: DuckTales Remastered

This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with…. DuckTales Remastered

If you were ever a fan of the Classic NES game DuckTales or the cartoon series it was based on, then you are going to love this bit of news.

The best part is that this game is coming out this Summer for all the currant game systems (Wii U, PS3, & Xbox 360), so just about anyone will get a chance to re-live the fun we all had back when we played the classic NES game.

But what are your thoughts about this new DuckTales game, do you think it will be as good as the classic NES game? And what other classic NES games would you like to see make a retro-style comeback?

Analog Style: Re\Visioned Activision Cartoons

This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with…. Re\Visioned: Activision

We all know that there were a lot of cool cartoons based on video games back in the 80’s and 90’s, but have you ever wondered what some of the classic Activision Games for the Atari 2600 would look like if they made cartoons based on them? Well, the guys at GameTap.com did, and back in 2007 they made their own.

Re\Visioned: Activision was a 6 episode online series made by GameTap.com a few years ago to promote their web page, and I must say that I would have love to see an animated series based on H.E.R.O and Pressure Cooker back in the 80’s.

What video games did you wanted to see be made into cartoons when you were a kid?

Analog Style: Retro Games on Kickstarter

This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with some very cool Retro Style Games on Kickstarter.com.

Now normally I do not make posts about stuff that was not part of the Analog Age, but after looking around Kickstarter, I found some very cool Retro Style Games that everyone here might like to take a look at.

The Crystal Catacombs: This game is a lot like a cross between Super Metroid & The Legend of Zelda II, but with random maps. So if you wanted to start a new game, you would get a different game map every time. This is the type of game that would force you to make a map, just like you did with the early RPG games from the Analog Age (like Dragon’s Quest and The Legend of Zelda).

Star Command: If you are a fan of Star Trek & The Sims, then you will love this game.

Super Retro Squad: This game is made by the same guys who made that cool fan game Super Mario Bros. Crossover, and it will have the same game play, but with all new power-ups, backgrounds, and characters.

Volgarr the Viking: This game looks allot like a 16-Bit Sega Genesis game (like Golden Axe).

Mercenary Kings: If you are a fan of the classic arcade game Metal Slug, then you love this game.

Moonintern: Another great looking retro style game were you play as a Moonintern.

David Crane’s Jungle Adventure: David Crane (the guy who made classic games like Pitfall & A Boy and His Blob) is working on an all new Jungle Adventure game.

Ukiyo-e Heroes: While this is not a retro style game, it is a cool art project related to classic NES Games.

As you can see from the links, most of the games have been successfully funded, while others are still going. I must say, I really like the fact that there is a new breed of retro games being made, and it proves that you don’t need HD CGI graphics and an overpriced game system to make great games.

So what retro games are you looking forward to playing? And what do you guys think about this new wave of Retro Style games that has been coming out lately?
