As always, you hit the nail straight on the head. I prolly learned more outside of the school building doing whatever I do, then in a class room.

    1. gabe says:

      Learning from the streets! 😀

    2. Did you? says:

That is bollocks. Did you ever learn differential calculus in a phone booth or on a car park?

    3. Ryan says:

      Probably; Not “prolly.”

Also, the word THAN is used when making a comparison. The word THEN is used in reference to time.

I learned that in school and it was on tests….

      (Tongue in cheek mind you)

I always felt I was more a hands-on kind of guy myself. This is especiallyt rue when it comes to long breaks like Summer and you forgot a bit of what you had already learned the rest of the year.

    1. gabe says:

…and how often do you actually use any of that information anyways?

  3. Fray says:

LOL! I use to do the same thing.

  4. Brother John says:

Yes, I get all of this. Standardized tests are largely (though not completely) rubbish. A great deal can be learned through experience. Thing is, though, once you grow up a little, you realize that

…there was a point to gym class. There isn’t a “Freshman 15” for nothing.

…tests give you a milestone and a target to shoot for

…tests – properly given – ought to be testing not just knowledge and retention but application

…a good teacher makes you keep using what you already learned

…that kid on the racetrack is learning … but when it comes to scaling up, where’s he going to learn the math?

    1. Gabe Swarr says:

Totally agreed! I also learned that I never use hardly any math I learned in school, just the logic behind it! 🙂

  5. Avianti says:

We need a little of both. But children today definitely don’t get enough hands on projects.
