Analog Arcade: Hypership Out Of Control

Welcome to a brand new feature here on Life In The Analog Age! This will feature a different game from the Analog Age or a new game that should have been from the Analog Age, any arcade game, console, online, or even board!

Please if you have any ideas for any games that I can add to the list, please don’t hesitate to send me an email. Here we go…

Beg your Mom for some quarters, jump on your bike and ride down to that dark, smokey, noisy and slightly dangerous home of your video games; the arcade!

It might seem kind of ironic to start this series with a new game for a new gaming system, but I wanted to give this game it’s dues. It’s amazing. It’s independent game called Hypership Out Of Control for ios (iPhone, iPad), X-box Live and WP7.

It might be a new game, but it is definitely plays like an classic game, the graphics, the sounds, everything. If you’ve ever played a game called Life Force for the NES and you were lucky enough to beat it, there’s a part at the end where you start flying faster and faster while steering around obstacles–that’s exactly what Hypership is like, except faster.

A lot of ios games might sound and feel like retro games, but a lot are missing what made a lot of those games good, real well designed longer levels. I can understand they are made as a casual experience, but what about when you don’t want a casual experience? What do you do if you want to learn, memorize, practice, and know the patterns and levels, not just react to a randomly generated level, well you play this game!

It has a great feel, sound and is well designed. If you like shmups and like 8-bit games, you’ll love this.

If you want to compete, send me your email address on Game Center and I’ll send you and invite to be friends!
