I was pondering making the traditional pork & sauerkraut for New Years, and then I read this and made it with apples, which was new to me — and it was terrific.

Wow! You made it? Great! Can you ever make it without apples ever again? 🙂

        I don’t think so — the apples were a great idea 🙂

For anyone wondering, all I did was slice a pork loin, season the slices with some salt & pepper, brown them in a pan, and then put in a baking dish with drained sauerkraut, thinly sliced onion, and slices of golden delicious apple. Poured about a cup of the sauerkraut juice mixed with chicken broth over it to moisten, sprinkled it with some cinnamon and baked for about an hour at 400 degrees. Not sure how authentically Pennsylvania Dutch it is, but everyone seemed to enjoy it 🙂

Sprinkle a little brown sugar along with the apples next time then BAKE it. Yummee!!!!!
