You start to hear the sounds of the morning, the wind rustling the leaves, the chirping of the birds and that’s when you realize what day it is–Saturday! Cartoons! All week long you’ve been starved of cartoons, and now it is your time to feast! You throw off the covers, shove your feet in your slippers and sprint downstairs!

Grab that big bowl of C-3POs, adjust the antennae and plop down on the floor for your weekly dose of animated fun!

This is “Analog Agent Benjamin” coming at you this week with…. The Pirates of Dark Water

The Pirates of Dark Water was a great series, I must have seen every episode of that show about a hundred times.

I always thought this show was a very good example of how a good fantasy series should be handled. It was set in a brand new world, it had a great cast of heroes & villains, and there was a grand quest that set the tone for the series. The only bad thing I could think of about this series was that it ended before the quest was done.

Was anyone else here disappointed when the show was canceled? Why didn’t they just finish it?!

I’m sure the typical money BS issue here. Nobody in the industry is ever really satisfied unless they see any financial outcome of it.

  2. According to what I read, there are a few reasons why The Pirates of Dark Water was dropped.

At the time, apparently the cartoon was expensive to produce. The show was actually supposed to be dropped sooner then it was, but the producers pushed to have it put out some more episodes before it was dropped.

I guess production times were off and there was some pretty long waits on new episodes. Some people speculate that the long wait times and lack of new episodes helped to lower viewer ratings, which hurt the show. I can see that, as a kid I’d hate waiting weeks or months for a new episode.

Also, there’s rumors circulating that at the time the show was in production, there had been a series of management changes at Hanna-Barbera and it was simply a rocky time to start production on a new series.

Whatever the case, the show was done. I wasn’t such a big fan of this cartoon myself, if it was on, I’d watch it, but I didn’t go out of my way to watch it.

I really loved Reboot the cartoon and if I recall correctly that was droppec on a cliffhanger too. Why do people do this? Why can’t they just finish off the story? Jesus.

Who knows. It’s funny when it happens anyway out of those problems with the production itself.
