You start to hear the sounds of the morning, the wind rustling the leaves, the chirping of the birds and that’s when you realize what day it is–Saturday! Cartoons! All week long you’ve been starved of cartoons, and now it is your time to feast! You throw off the covers, shove your feet in your slippers and sprint downstairs!

Grab that big bowl of C-3POs, adjust the antennae and plop down on the floor for your weekly dose of animated fun!

This week: Yo Yogi!

Yep, not your parents’ Yogi Bear, this one was updated just for your generation, because you know, it’s just what the world needed. Yogi didn’t live in Yellowstone Park he lived in Yellowstone Mall. He hung out with security guard Officer Smith and solved crimes with all his other friends, kid versions of Snaggletooth, Huckleberry Hound, Cindy Bear and Boo Boo. The show featured 3D sequences where you would watch with your official Yo Yogi 3D glasses found in Rice Krispies and other Kelloggs’ cereals.

When I watch this I cringe, even as a kid. I don’t know if any of you out there were fans, but I’m sorry–this should not have existed. Half the original voice actors were dead and I bet you the only reason people worked on this was to avoid unemployment.

As good as Hanna-Barbera in the early days, they were just as bad in the later days. Did you watch Yo Yogi? Did you even know about the original Yogi cartoon?

Thanks again Benjamin for the links!

Yo Yogi was a awful show, not have the cannon of Yogi, and looks worst than the Live action movie, but had a great parody in youtube of YO yOGI (IS A YOUTUBE POOP) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSzJG22ElCk

And of course he was a kid detective. Because that’s what the 80s and 90s needed, more kid detective cartoons.

Maybe all kids in the 80’s and 90’s were actual detectives!?

      Not me!

I never did watch this show at all. I guess I’ll give H-B credit for finding ways to rehash their classic characters into yet-another-shoehorned effort, but it’s so dated and dumb, it needs to be buried!

        Agreed! Burn it!

Thank goodness I was already a teen at the time and was going through that “cartoons are s–t” stage of my life I grew out of later (though I was glad the 90’s showed up and there was something for me to watch and admit to watching to my high school pals).

Too bad there use to be a video that showed one of those “3D moments” in the show up on YouTube. I wanted to link that here to give an idea of where those glasses came in handy, though I feel you’re not missing much. Just a bunch of random panning backgrounds and foreground elements moving at ridiculous speeds.
