You start to hear the sounds of the morning, the wind rustling the leaves, the chirping of the birds and that’s when you realize what day it is–Saturday! Cartoons! All week long you’ve been starved of cartoons, and now it is your time to feast! You throw off the covers, shove your feet in your slippers and sprint downstairs!

Grab that big bowl of C-3POs, adjust the antennae and plop down on the floor for your weekly dose of animated fun!

This week: A Pup Named Scooby Doo

This show was fun. It was a cartoonier take on Scooby, complete with great cartoon takes, wacky jokes, and really weird monsters. I also watched this show because it was more like Bugs Bunny and less like Scooby Doo.

Did you watch this as a kid? Did you like it?

I preferred this over the original Scooby-Doo.

Hey, what about Fantastic Max or Bucky O’ Hare?

    1. gabe says:

Oh, they are on the list 🙂

I loved this show Gabe… I was usually chomping on some Ghostbusters cereal!

    1. gabe says:

Yum! I never had that! Sounds good though!

  3. Matthew Koh says:

Oh yes! I used to watch this show back then.

And you know what? This is the reason why I become a cartoonist/animator.

    1. gabe says:

Wow! Super influential for you then! Mine was Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry 🙂

  4. Benjamin says:

I remember this cartoon, it was much better then the old Scooby Doo series. And the monsters were cool looking too.

    1. gabe says:

They were a little different but man, some of those Alex Toth monsters were awesome like the electrical dude!

I loved this show when I was younger. During summer vacations from school I used to watch A Pup Named Scooby Doo every time it was on!

    1. gabe says:

      Nice! Any other favorites?

  6. One of the few cartoon shows that I think I managed to watch every single episode of, even though it was on Saturday and I had to go to swimming lessons on Saturday mornings.

    1. gabe says:

I had swimming lessons on Saturday mornings too! I can’t believe it! I’m planning on doing a short about that very thing!

      1. Chris Sobieniak says:

Much different from the swimming lessons I had during grade school myself. I use to get scared about going to the YMCA whenever that day showed up every week.

        1. Chris Sobieniak says:

Eventually I got to the point where I didn’t want to leave! Too bad though they charge such a high price for membership there.

  7. James Childress says:

I wasn’t sold on it. Seemed like another dumbed down turn the well known adult characters into children show. There were way too many shows done with that premise.

    1. gabe says:

Agreed. This one at least looked really cool, especially at the time.
