Another great snack food: Tato Skins. Now I’m not talking about the TGI Friday’s kind, I’m talking the one and only original. These crunchy potato chips were released in 1987 in 3 flavors, Baked Potato, Cheddar & Bacon, and Sour Cream & Onion. The reason they were called Tato Skins was because they were like normal chips, but had a darker “skinned” side. Some how I doubt it was made from actual potato skin.
The first time my brother and I ever ate these was when we went camping with our biological father. Be it delicious chips with a PB&J sandwich or sitting in front of the TV with a giant bag of pretzel sticks, he always had the best taste in snack foods, and these were no exception.

For years, the wife and I have been fretting over their disappearance from store shelves. They were awesome!

“Tato skins got baked potato appeal, cause they’re made with potatos and skins that are real. Tato skins from Keebler, baked potato appeal!”

I am sure they involved real potato skins at some point, before they were ground up, bleached, reconstituted, and dyed.

For years and years, I’ve remembered a piece of a jingle that went, “…sour cream and chives, baked potato, barbecue, you won’t believe your eyes!” Now I finally remember what commercial it was from.
