MORAL: Never judge a book by it’s cover.

No shame in seeing Explorers. River Phoenix FTW!

My big shame was Star Wars. We only went to see movies on summer vacation. One night the choice was between Star Wars and some cartoon, probably The Rescuers. I had just turned 8. I said, “I don’t think I want to see a war movie.”

    DERP DE DERP.

My little brother (who was about to turn 5) really, really did want to see a war movie, especially a war movie with a “monster” in it (the ad had a picture of Vader’s head). He went with (I think) my uncle to see Star Wars, and I went with my mom to see the cartoon. I honestly don’t even remember it, but my little brother came out of Star Wars literally jumping for joy. Thankfully, they were both so impressed with the movie that they wanted to see it again and thought I’d really like it, so I got to see it before vacation ended. But for that week or so between visits to the theater, it seemed like the worst mistake of my 8-year-old life. I’m pretty sure I actually cried.

I had a similar situation too where I was staying overnight at the Des Moines, Iowa Science Center with my cub scout group and we got to vote on whether to watch Roger Rabbit or Back to the Future.

I had already seen Roger Rabbit and knew it was a great movie. I had no idea what Back to the Future was — but like the cartoon — I thought it sounded dumb. So I voted to watch Roger Rabbit again.

Fortunately I was out-voted, and disaster/regret/etc. was averted.

Man, you are so lucky! I wish my parents knew anything about those movies, maybe then they would of out-voted me!

I loved Explorers, but yeah BTTF was far better.

Night and day! Poor Explorers just can’t compete!
