I figured your Dad from previous strips really didn’t look too much like you. Divorce can be heartbreaking for a child, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out for adults and there isn’t any force in the universe that can keep them together. My Mother ended up divorcing my father later on, he had a lot of problems after being in Vietnam; alcoholism, drug addiction, anger problems. I don’t blame either of them, it was a difficult situation.

      Yep, that’s the reason why.

very touching, sad, and from the heart.

Brought back a wave of emotions. Time has a way of smoothing over the rough spots. Hopefully we have built a strong relationship over the years. Thank you for being you.

I sometimes felt kind of weird being seemingly the only kid in my class whose parents WEREN’T divorced. It seemed like it was only natural that a couple should get together, have a couple kids, get sick of each other, and then take turns taking care of their kids every other week.

In high school, people actually thought it was weird that my parents were still married after 20 years.

I’m also a child of divorce, even if it was after school. I look at it this way, what has happened, happened. If I had a time machine to change the past, I wouldn’t. Yes it costed 5,000+ comics & collectibles, but I would’ve never met my wife, or had my crazy & awesome son. After my parents split, I envied yours because they were cordial (at last around me) & for almost 10 years I felt I’d never see my parents together in the same room because of the bitterness.

Thank you everyone. This short was a very hard one to do. It brought back way more memories and feelings than I wanted. I never looked at it more from my father’s POV either, it was very revealing even all these years later.

I can imagine that was hard to write. Its always hard for me to revisit those moments too. Hugs my dear friend.

There was so much drama in my past. My dad would drink and get high and hit my mom, and beat me when she was at work. When everything escalated the police came in, and I guess my mom got a separation, they got divorced a bit later, but I hadn’t seen my dad since shortly after my 6th birthday. I still remember one of the toys I got, it was a Michelangelo TMNT toy that had plastic strips that you’d pull through a sound box in his shell, and he’d say different things.

My mom remarried to the biggest a-hole on the planet. I guess abusive relationships were all she knew.

I was going to write more, but my childhood was depressing. I’m better off now.

Thank you for sharing your stories everyone. I’m happy to see I’m not alone here. Divorce was an event in my life from over 30 years ago, and the feelings still echo for me today.
