No teacher should assign homework over the Christmas break. It’s a crime and it needs to stop.
I mean c’mon, when you were a kid and you are on the bus and finally get home and the Christmas break is finally upon you, are you going to sit down right then and there and do homework–homework?! No, of course not, you are going to put it off as long as you can. Then the worst thing happens.
It’s Christmas morning, you are opening presents, having a good time with your family and all that you are thinking about is doing dumb homework. It’s like a gnawing bug eating away at the back of your mind, a disease that’s slowly killing your fun. 
So let’s say you actually forget about the homework, you enjoy your break and have a good time. Well, what happens when you are riding the bus back to school, all refreshed and ready to go back and then you remember that there’s a mound of homework you totally forgot about?! Well, you have a heart attack and die, that’s what.
Stop assigning homework over the Christmas break, it’s killing our children.
The most depressing thing ever. What on earth was (is) wrong with those teachers.
Maybe that’s exactly what the teachers secretly want…

teachers seem to be getting smarter and not giving homework over the break as much anymore so maybe there is hope for us yet
I agree, it seems like a real dick move on the Teacher’s part. For the most part, my teachers were really good about it. In my school we had what was called a Senior Skip Day, when all the senior students of the year would skip and the faculty wouldn’t do anything about it. The only problem was a lot of them scheduled really important tests whatever day the skip day was, so you had two choices, skip or let your GPA drop because your teacher was an asshole.
I lucked out my year, I was good friends with my Spanish Teacher and convinced her not to be a total cunt.
Over break I had a nightmare (twice!) about coming to school without my HW done!!! The worst part is that if I go to my algebra class, my algebra teacher would slaughter me onto the walls if i didn’t do it. But then I thought about it in my dream and said to myself it’s not due yet…
But still, It just SCARES me!!!!!
heh, happened to me, too (in Brazil, we have a different school calendar: 3 weeks or so of mid-term vacation in july, and the interval between a term and the next one from early december to mid-february). Fact is, during the july break, teachers would gave us tons of homework “so we would not forget the subjects” during those weeks. I was too young to remember, but my mother says once one of those assignments was to write down every number from 1 to 500. She did half of it, Pitying me.
oh i still have homework over Christmas….University homework…even more fun 🙁
