I had the ultimate Converse shoes, yellow inside, teal outside. They freaking rocked. However, trying to put them on when laced all the way to the top was a chore. I recall being late to school because I took too long lacing them up all the way and ended up having to walk. Worth it.

Awesome! I agree, totally worth it!

My Chucks were the leopard print glow-in-the-dark. I never flapped them over as I wanted to show off the glowing coolness.

Being following these on Dumm comics and, gotta say, your work is very charming and bring good memories. Since my analog age was in Brazil, I’d expect to have nothing in comon, but alas. I remember those hands, and how filthy they became after a week.
I think I remember seeing these Converse, but, around my corner of the globe, our fever was another: a mock-up of a soccer shoe (i guess you call it “cleats”) called Ki-Chute. It had the advantage of being all black, what mean we could use it even under the draconian school uniform rules, that forbade color shoes. We loved those because it had big oversized plastic studs and and extra-long shoelace. I swear, us kids must have developed dozens of ways of making laces with those: around the ankles, under the sole, each one with their degree of coolness

Wow! So happy to hear that you have something in common! I’m always trying to do some overall universal issues! So excited to hear that you can connect! Please share! 🙂

I played soccer as a kid and I remember that I had to wear shin guards and they would stick out of the top of my socks because my legs were so small!

’80s fashion was much nicer than the ’70s, in my opinion. Ah, the good ol’ days.
